The Oak Bluffs port guide

Table of Contents

Oak Bluffs is the passenger ferry harbour of Martha's Vineyard. The Island Queen from Falmouth, Hy-Line's high-speed ferry from Hyannis and the inter-island ferry from Nantucket all arrive here, in a harbour in the middle of the town on the north-east side of the island. The Steamship Authority's car ferry from Woods Hole calls at Oak Bluffs in season and at Vineyard Haven, a few miles west, year-round.

The routes to Oak Bluffs

Falmouth is the short way across: the Island Queen in about 35 minutes, from 22 May to 12 October 2026, with up to seven sailings a day in summer. See Falmouth - Oak Bluffs.

Hyannis has Hy-Line's high-speed ferry in about an hour, from May through October. See Hyannis - Oak Bluffs.

Nantucket is linked by Hy-Line's inter-island ferry, direct in about 70 minutes, three times a day in season. See Nantucket - Oak Bluffs.

The harbour

The ferries dock in Oak Bluffs harbour, and the town begins at the pier: Circuit Avenue, the gingerbread cottages and the island buses are a few minutes on foot. All three passenger ferries use the same harbour, so a loop, in from Falmouth and out to Nantucket for example, needs no transfer across the island.

Cars and bikes

Cars come to Martha's Vineyard only with the Steamship Authority from Woods Hole. The passenger ferries carry bikes; the Island Queen takes paddleboards and kayaks too. Bike hire is at the harbour.

Leaving the island

Sailings back to Falmouth and Hyannis, and the inter-island ferry to Nantucket, are in the timetable. The Island Queen releases unchecked reservations 15 minutes before departure, so be back at the harbour with a margin.
