The Falmouth port guide

Table of Contents

Falmouth is the first ferry port after the canal bridges, on the south coast of the upper Cape, and the closest mainland harbour to Martha's Vineyard. The Island Queen sails from Falmouth Harbor to Oak Bluffs in about 35 minutes, from 22 May to 12 October 2026.

The route from Falmouth

Oak Bluffs is the Island Queen's only destination: about 35 minutes, up to seven times a day in summer, with bikes, paddleboards and kayaks on board and pets free. See Falmouth - Oak Bluffs.

The dock and parking

The Island Queen leaves from Falmouth Harbor. Its parking is 200 yards from the dock and is paid per calendar day in cash; the fee is on the prices page. Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure, because reservations that are not checked in 15 minutes before departure are released to other passengers.

Getting to Falmouth

Falmouth is reached over the Bourne Bridge and down Route 28, the shortest drive of any Cape ferry port from Providence and the west, and only a little longer from Boston than Hyannis. Allow time for the bridge on summer weekends.

Woods Hole and the car ferry

The Steamship Authority's terminal in Woods Hole, a few miles west of Falmouth Harbor, is the only place on the Cape where cars board a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The Island Queen carries passengers and bikes; anyone with a car chooses between leaving it in Falmouth and taking the Island Queen, or driving to Woods Hole for the Steamship Authority.
